Langyang Temple
The predecessor of Langyang temple is fengrao temple built by Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty in Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty. The temple was later destroyed in a fire during the period of the Republic of China, and there is only one cliff statue left. In 2012, the cliff stone sculpture group of Langyang temple was announced as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan.
There are 24 niches, 145 statues and 14 inscriptions on the cliff of Langyang temple, which are 9 meters long, 4 meters wide and 4.2 meters high. Six year names have been found on the cliff carvings. The earliest one is the first year of the Tang Dynasty and the last is the first year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1131), with a time span of 375 years. Among the statues, the male Avalokitesvara statue excavated in the Tang Dynasty is one of the earliest Avalokitesvara statues in China. At present, there are only three similar statues in China, of which the other two are located in mingshanshi, Yongtai, Fuzhou, and Lufeng Town, Tongliang District, Chongqing.
The archeological circles agree that the cliff statues and male Guanyin statues of Langyang Temple confirm the "prosperous Tang Dynasty, majestic style" in Xuanhan history.
